Story
Nine noble families fight for control of the land of Westeros, and an ancient enemy returns from millennia of slumber. George R.R.’s wife Martin once said that if he killed Arya or Sansa, she would leave him. Tywin Lannister: Any man who must say “I am king” is not a true king. Main title (uncredited) Written and performed by Ramin Javadi. Let’s say you’re reading these reviews and you haven’t seen GoT yet, but now that it’s over you’re considering binging it. In this case, the convention is correct, and it is as follows: Seasons 1 to 6: Exclusive. Deep world-building, clever dialogue, epic Hollywood-worthy visuals, expert acting, detailed plot, genuine surprises, great soundtrack sparingly used.
GoT is definitely worth watching for these seasons
Season 7: You suddenly notice that the writing and plotting have dropped in quality. There are inexplicable ideas, inconsistent characterizations and soap opera drama. But at least the entertainment value is still pretty high so it ends. Season 8: This fall goes deeper than you think.
Deadly for fiction
The script is so amateurish that the still-fantastic production values aren’t enough to save it. If you’ve ever enjoyed Lost but were surprised by how bad the final season was, you’re on familiar ground here. The biggest problem with the final season is that it took us out of the story and made us think about its many weaknesses. We lost our suspension of disbelief.
But it’s not the best series ever
It ruined the story arcs of the series to the point where it wouldn’t make sense to revisit the entire series. May I recommend a Game of Thrones marathon for newbies? Yes, the first 6 seasons are worth the disappointment. It may be, but the finale’s flop leaves it behind the following top series most worthy of your marathon: Battlestar Galactica (2003-2008) Twin Peaks (all 3 seasons and the movie) Breaking Bad
